Bad Credit Debt Consolidation Loans

While you may have bad credit, a debt consolidation loan is still possible.

Bad Credit Consolidation Loans Many people ask how they can get a debt consolidation loans with bad credit. While this is possible, it usually must be a secured loan with collateral. The way this is typically done is with a home equity loan or a home mortgage loan. Usually they will let your cash out of your home, and take the money and put it towards your other debts.

These loans work great in a few ways, they can minimize your monthly payments and often times you can get your payments down to the price of your previous mortgage payment. The way this is done is by cashing out the equity in your home. The down side is that whatever equity you have built up could be lost. Say you have 20 years left on a 30 year home loan, you could end up basically resetting your loan to 30 years again.

In certain cases your home loan could end up with a higher mortgage payment. This would be if you cash out based not on equity alone, but also on value. Lets take for example if you bought a home for $150,000 and then you owe $120,000 on it, while logic would say you could get a 30,000 equity loan, you could actually get more. As home values usually do have an upward trend on them, your home could be worth $200,000 now, allowing you up to $80,000 to get on your bad credit debt consolidation loan. The payment would go up because instead of having a mortgage on a $150,000 loan, you would now be paying for a mortgage on a $200,000 loan.

Unfortunately there aren't many places that will allow you a unsecured debt consolidation loan with bad credit. The best place to try for unsecured would probably be a credit union or banking institution that you have established history with. While that is bad news, the good news is that you can still consolidate your outstanding credit accounts in most cases, one way or another.
